Ambulance Communication Officers Training Program

The ACO Training Program is a multi-phased approach. The first few days at the CACC are focused on orientation, information about the training program and familiarization with the CACC and Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

New recruits attend a four-week Entry to Practice (ETP) training program administered by the MOH. Trainees must successfully complete this certification to be accepted into the local training program.

Trainees are then introduced to the communications centre live environment where they are matched with an ACO who will mentor them for the duration of the local training program. The local training program consists of call taking training and sign off followed by dispatch training and sign off. There are different time frames for the stages of training and being signed off and each new recruit progresses through the training at their own pace.
